A pair of protests brought thousands to downtown Los Angeles to protest new federal immigration policies, with some participants vandalizing property and a driver doing doughnuts in an intersection.
The officer, who was on a motorcycle, was hit by a car at West 13th Avenue and Elati Street, just east of Speer Boulevard, according to a 7:07 p.m. statement from the Denver Police Department.
Police told Denver7 that the officer was working “traffic support” at the intersection.
The officer, who has not been identified, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and the driver stayed on scene, police said. The crash was not intentional, police said.
West 13th Avenue was temporarily closed for the crash cleanup and investigation but reopened overnight.
